What Is Your GPA on the 4.0 Scale?
What Is GPA and Why Does It Matter?
GPA (Grade Point Average) converts your weighted course average to a 4.0 scale. Turkish universities call this AGNO (Ağırlıklı Genel Not Ortalaması). It directly affects graduation status, scholarship eligibility and graduate programme admissions.
The calculator evaluates each course separately and shows your approximate GPA based on the weighted total. Results may differ slightly depending on your university's regulations.
How to Use. Step by Step
Required Inputs
- Course grade: 0–100 point score
- Credits (ECTS): Credit value of the course
- Add a row for each course: no limit on number.
Calculation Logic
The tool first converts each grade to a letter grade point (AA=4.0, BA=3.5 etc.), then multiplies by the course ECTS. The sum of all products is divided by total ECTS to find the GPA.
Formula: GPA = Σ(Letter Points × ECTS) ÷ Total ECTS
Letter Grade Mapping Table
| Grade | Score Range | GPA Value | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| AA | 90–100 | 4.0 | Excellent |
| BA | 85–89 | 3.5 | Very Good |
| BB | 80–84 | 3.0 | Good |
| CB | 75–79 | 2.5 | Above Average |
| CC | 70–74 | 2.0 | Average |
| DC | 65–69 | 1.5 | Below Average |
| DD | 60–64 | 1.0 | Poor |
| FD | 50–59 | 0.5 | Failing |
| FF | 0–49 | 0.0 | Failing |
Example Scenario
| Course | GPA Contribution |
|---|---|
| Mathematics (6 ECTS, 88 pts) | 6 × 3.5 = 21.0 pts |
| Physics (4 ECTS, 72 pts) | 4 × 2.0 = 8.0 pts |
| Chemistry (4 ECTS, 91 pts) | 4 × 4.0 = 16.0 pts |
| Total (14 ECTS) | 45.0 ÷ 14 = 3.21 GPA |
How to Interpret Results?
A GPA of 3.0 or above is the dean's list threshold at most universities. Below 2.0 carries the risk of academic warning or conditional status. Graduate programmes typically look for a 2.5–3.0 minimum GPA, while scholarships require higher.
Don't panic if you see a low GPA in a single semester. High grades in subsequent semesters will gradually pull the cumulative AGNO up.
Tips for Accurate Results
- Use ECTS consistently — do not mix local and ECTS credits.
- Check how your university handles exempt courses in GPA calculation.
- Different universities may assign slightly different GPA values per letter grade.
- Use your make-up exam score if applicable, not the original failed grade.
