Size to Weight Calculator: Mass from Material Density

To calculate the weight of a box or rectangular prism, you only need three dimensions and the material density. This tool performs the weight calculation used daily in industry, logistics, construction and engineering in seconds.

Calculation Formula

Steps:

  1. Volume (cm³) = Length × Width × Height
  2. Volume (m³) = Volume (cm³) ÷ 1,000,000
  3. Weight (kg) = Volume (m³) × Density (kg/m³)

Example: 30×20×10 cm steel box → Volume = 6,000 cm³ = 0.006 m³ → Weight = 0.006 × 7,850 = 47.1 kg

How to Calculate Box Weight Without a Scale

Using the mathematical relationship between mass and volume (m = d × V), you can find the weight of any object without a scale.

  1. Measure the dimensions: Determine the length, width and height of the box.
  2. Calculate the volume: Multiply these three values together to find the total volume.
  3. Find the density: Obtain the density of the material the box is made from or contains.
  4. Calculate the mass: Confirm your units are consistent (e.g. m³ with kg/m³), then apply the formula: m = d × V.

Frequently Asked Questions

Formula: Weight = Volume × Density. Volume = Length × Width × Height (cm³). Convert to m³ by dividing by 1,000,000. Then multiply by density (kg/m³): Weight (kg) = Volume (m³) × Density (kg/m³).
