How to Calculate TV Mounting Height?

Wall-mounting a TV has become a popular choice for saving space and achieving a clean aesthetic. However, a TV mounted at the wrong height can cause neck pain, eye strain and long-term posture problems. The ideal height depends on screen size, your eye level, viewing distance and tilt angle if used.

Center Height vs Bottom Edge Height

There are two critical measurements in TV mounting: the height of the screen's center point from the floor, and the height of the screen's bottom edge from the floor. You typically use center height to find where to drill the bracket; the bottom edge tells you whether you can fit furniture beneath the TV.

When to Use Tilt Angle?

Tilt angle comes into play when you have to mount the TV outside ergonomic limits — too high or too low. Rule of thumb: if your eye level is more than 15° above or below the screen center, consider a tilt bracket. 5–10° of tilt is usually imperceptible; 15° and above is the comfort threshold.

This calculator produces estimates based on ergonomic reference values. Wall construction, bracket mounting point and personal preferences may affect the result. For heavy TVs (20 kg+), always work with a professional or wall anchor specialist.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ideal height places the center of the screen at eye level when seated — typically 100–110 cm from the floor. For a 55-inch TV, this usually means mounting between 90–110 cm from the floor. This calculator gives you the exact value based on your screen size and eye level.
