Electricity Bill Calculator

Enter kWh consumption and unit price to calculate your monthly electricity bill including VAT.

Disclaimer: This tool is provided for estimation purposes only. Bill amounts may vary by region, tariff, subscriber type and EPDK tariff updates. For the exact amount, refer to your distribution company's official bill breakdown.

How Is Electricity Consumption (kWh) and Bill Calculated?

An electricity bill consists of three main items: energy charge, distribution charge and VAT. A calculation based only on the per-kWh energy price underestimates the real bill by 15–25%.

Formula: (kWh × unit energy price) + (kWh × distribution charge) = subtotal. Subtotal × VAT rate = VAT amount. Amount payable = subtotal + VAT.

Example Scenario (250 kWh/month)

A typical monthly calculation for a medium-sized home with 5 occupants:

ItemAmount
Monthly consumption250 kWh
Unit energy price3.50 TL/kWh
Energy charge875.00 TL
Distribution charge (0.80 TL/kWh)200.00 TL
Subtotal1,075.00 TL
VAT (8%)86.00 TL
Amount payable1,161.00 TL
Average daily cost≈ 38.70 TL

What Is the Difference Between Single-Rate and Time-of-Use Tariffs?

On a single-rate tariff (TT) the unit price is fixed 24/7 — you pay the same TL/kWh regardless of the time. On a time-of-use tariff (TOU) the day is divided into three periods:

T1 – Daytime

06:00–17:00

Normal

T2 – Peak

17:00–22:00

Most Expensive

T3 – Night

22:00–06:00

Cheapest

The T3 (night) rate can be 40–50% below the T1 rate. Running high-power appliances like washing machines and dishwashers on a night programme therefore meaningfully reduces your bill. To switch to a time-of-use tariff simply contact your distribution company's customer service.

Practical Electricity Saving Tips to Lower Your Bill

⏱️

Run washing machines and dishwashers between 22:00–06:00; on time-of-use tariffs the unit price during these hours is 40–50% lower.

🌡️

Set the air conditioner to 24–26°C. Each 1°C drop increases energy consumption by approximately 6–8%.

💡

Switch all bulbs to LED. They use 5–8× less energy than traditional bulbs and last 10× longer.

🔌

Don't leave devices such as TVs, chargers and set-top boxes on standby. Standby devices can account for 5–10% of your annual bill.

🧊

Keep the fridge at least 5 cm away from walls and away from heat sources. Check door seals regularly.

🔄

Switch to a time-of-use tariff. Households with high night-time electricity use can save 15–25% on their annual bill.
