Data is based on TURKSTAT's CPI index. This tool is for informational purposes only; no legal liability is accepted.

This tool gives an estimate only. It uses Turkey CPI (TÜFE) data published by TÜİK (Turkish Statistical Institute), with an estimated rate for 2026 because the year is not over yet. For other countries, use your local CPI series.

How Are the Inflation Rate and Value Loss Calculated?

Calculation Logic Using TÜFE (Turkey CPI) Data

TÜFE measures the price of a basket of goods and services purchased by an average consumer. TÜİK (Turkish Statistical Institute) publishes this index each month; the change versus the previous month or the same month a year earlier yields the inflation rate. The tool builds a cumulative monthly CPI chain and calculates the total price increase between two dates with these formulas:

Equivalent Amount = Starting Amount × (End CPI ÷ Start CPI)

Purchasing Power Loss (%) = (1 − Start CPI ÷ End CPI) × 100

For dates before 2005, the old TL to new TL conversion (1,000,000 old TL = 1 ₺) is applied automatically. An estimated TÜFE rate is used for 2026.

Purchasing Power Change Across Past Years (Time Value of Money)

The table below shows what 1,000 ₺ in January of different years between 2010 and 2024 is worth in January 2026. The values come from the calculator on this page, using the same formula and data.

Start YearJanuary 2026 equivalent of 1,000 ₺ (January)Purchasing Power Loss
2010≈ 19,235 ₺94.8%
2015≈ 13,154 ₺92.4%
2018≈ 10,199 ₺90.2%
2020≈ 7,612 ₺86.9%
2022≈ 5,668 ₺82.4%
2024≈ 2,138 ₺53.2%

Values are approximate because they are derived from annual average TÜFE rates; a direct calculation with the TÜİK index may differ slightly.

How Inflation Affects Daily Life

Rent Increase Rate (12-Month CPI Average) Calculation

Under the Turkish Code of Obligations, residential rent increases cannot exceed the change in TÜFE based on 12-month averages for the previous rental year (Art. 344). TÜİK publishes this rate monthly by comparing the average index of the last 12 months with the 12 months before. For example, for a lease renewed on 15 September 2026, the August 2026 rate (31.79%) published on 3 September is the cap.

Legal Cap

Rent increase cannot exceed the 12-month TÜFE average.

12-Month Average

Change in the average index of the last 12 months versus the 12 months before.

Rent Increase Tool

Use the Rent Increase Calculator to get the new rent.

Salary Raises and the Inflation Gap

Real salary growth is the part of the nominal raise that exceeds inflation. Formula:

Real Raise ≈ (1 + Nominal Raise) ÷ (1 + Inflation) − 1

Example: you got a 35% raise while inflation in the same period was 50%, so your real loss is about 10%. Use this tool to enter your past salary as the start period and compare its present-day equivalent with your actual current salary.

Nominal Raise > Inflation

Real wage rises, purchasing power increases

Nominal Raise = Inflation

Purchasing power flat, zero real growth

Nominal Raise < Inflation

Real wage falls, purchasing power drops

Frequently Asked Questions

TÜİK data. The tool uses annual average CPI (TÜFE) change rates published by TÜİK (Turkish Statistical Institute). Monthly values are derived from these annual rates by geometric interpolation. For 2025 it uses the 34.88% TÜİK published in its December 2025 bulletin. Because 2026 is not over yet, an estimated rate is used for that year.
