Disclaimer: This tool gives estimates based on ergonomic reference values. Wall construction, the bracket's mounting point and personal preference can change the result. For heavy TVs (20 kg+), have a professional or wall-anchor specialist do the mounting; no liability is accepted for structural damage or injury.

How Is the Ideal TV Height Determined?

There is no single right answer for TV mounting, but there is a widely used reference: the screen's centre should be at seated eye level or no more than 5° below it. This keeps neck muscles relaxed and reduces fatigue during long viewing.

Recommended Mounting Height by Screen Size

The values below assume a seated eye level of 105 cm. If yours is different, use the calculator above.

Basic Rule: Screen Centre at Eye Level (Ergonomics)

The reference range used on this page: the screen centre should be no more than 15° above or 5° below eye level. Outside this range, neck, shoulder and upper-back muscles stay under constant tension.

What to Watch Out for When Wall-Mounting a TV

Mounting safety and room conditions matter as much as height. The wrong bracket, or a mount that doesn't suit the wall, can damage the TV and hurt people nearby.

Bedroom vs Living Room Mounting Differences

🛋️ Living Room

  • Seated eye level about 100–110 cm
  • Keep the TV centre close to this height
  • Fixed or slight-tilt bracket is sufficient
  • Consider full-motion if there is side seating

🛏️ Bedroom

  • Eye level lying down about 60–75 cm
  • High mounting strains the neck
  • Tilt or full-motion bracket recommended
  • Sitting up in bed? Living room rule applies

Installation Above a Fireplace or High Cabinet

A TV mounted above a fireplace usually sits 140–180 cm from the floor, which is 30–70 cm above standard eye level. That causes serious neck fatigue during long viewing. Fireplace heat can also damage the TV's electronics, so check the maximum operating temperature in the manufacturer's specifications.

If the fireplace is the only option, use an extending full-motion mount: the TV can tilt down and pull forward toward eye level. This is still not ideal, so move the TV elsewhere if you can.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your seated eye level is about 105 cm and you put the screen centre at eye level, the centre sits about 105 cm from the floor. A 55" TV's screen is about 68 cm tall, so its bottom edge is about 71 cm up. For a 65" TV (screen height about 81 cm) the bottom edge is about 65 cm. Enter your own eye level in the calculator above for your value.
