Birth Chart (Natal Chart) Calculator
Calculate your Sun, Moon and Rising signs in one form. The Moon and Rising signs need your birth time.
Astrology is not a scientific discipline; this tool is for entertainment. The calculation uses astronomical formulas, and the result is approximate.
What Is a Birth Chart (Natal Chart)?
A birth chart is a snapshot of the sky at the moment and place of your birth. It is a circular map showing which sign and which part of the sky the Sun, the Moon and the other planets were in at that moment. Because the chart changes with birth time and place, no two people's natal charts are exactly the same.
In astrology, the chart is used to interpret a person's nature, tendencies and life patterns. Even twins born a few minutes apart can have different rising signs, which shows how much the exact birth time matters.
How Is a Birth Chart Created and Interpreted?
A birth chart needs three inputs: birth date, birth time and birth place. From these, the tool calculates where the Sun, the Moon and the Ascendant fall on the ecliptic and which sign each is in. The result is summarised as your sun sign (who you are), moon sign (how you feel) and rising sign (how you come across to others).
Why Do Birth Time and Birth Place Matter?
The sun sign changes about every 30 days, so the birth date is enough. The Moon changes sign about every 2.5 days, so entering the birth time is recommended; if the Moon changes sign that day, the time decides which sign is right. The rising sign changes about every 2 hours, so it needs both the time and the birth place (latitude/longitude and time zone). The country and city selection applies the UTC offset and daylight saving time automatically.
Key Elements in Your Chart: Planets, Houses and Aspects
A complete natal chart includes 10 planets, 12 houses and the angles (aspects) the planets form with each other. This tool calculates only the three core points, which summarise the chart and serve as its starting point. For a full chart, you can use a tool such as Astro.com or consult an experienced astrologer.
The Meaning of the 12 Houses in an Astrology Chart
The 12 houses represent different areas of life: identity, values, communication, family, creativity, health, relationships, transformation, philosophy, career, community and the soul/subconscious. In astrological reading, a planet is linked to the area of the house it sits in. For example, a strong Venus in the 7th house points to relationships and partnerships being prominent.
Sun, Moon and Rising Sign (The Big Three)
Known as the "Big Three," this combination is the most widely used astrological personality summary: Sun = conscious identity and ego, Moon = emotional world and instincts, Rising = outward image and first impression. Looking at all three gives a more detailed picture than the sun sign alone.
You can also explore your moon sign and rising sign on their own pages. When looking at zodiac compatibility between two people, considering the Big Three together gives a more detailed result.
