This tool is for information only and doesn't replace professional marketing advice.

CPL (cost per lead) measures how well a marketing campaign generates potential customers (leads). It's most useful in B2B and in form-fill campaigns, where it shows how much you spend for each set of contact details.

CPL Formula and Calculation

CPL = Total Spend ÷ Total Leads

Divide the campaign's total ad spend by the number of leads it brought in. The lower the figure, the cheaper your lead generation.

Why Does CPL Matter?

CPL shows efficiency at the top of the sales funnel. Focusing only on a low CPL can mislead; the real aim is to see how many leads turn into sales and improve the 'cost per qualified lead'.

Ways to Lower CPL

To bring lead costs down, simplify the landing page form, make the value proposition clearer and use lookalike audiences in your targeting. Fewer form fields usually raise the conversion rate, which lowers CPL.

Average CPL Values by Channel

CPL varies a lot by industry and by advertising channel. The figures below are rough US-dollar ranges often quoted in industry write-ups. They can differ a lot by country, period and targeting, so compare them with your own campaign data.
